BACK IN TJ (and other news)
Ok so we flew back to Tijuana to get our van but before we left our new friends Claudia and Lalo took us to a few taco spots in Tijuana just to make sure our Mexican food experience was complete. I stopped at a spot and had a pastor and asada taco. Very good. No picture though, but you know what a taco looks like right? Well, the next few tacos I had were a bit different so here they are.
Those...
GUADALAJARA
Our last show was in Guadalajara, where we had a great time walking around the plaza and the shopping district which our tour manager Rene said is the biggest in Latin America? Makes sense, it was HUGE. And had tons of places to eat in it. And of course we stopped at one.
You’re looking at the best tortilla soup I have ever had, without a doubt. Aside from a thick, hearty broth, big...
MEXICO CITY
Our next stop was Mexico City. This place is like the capital of street food. So many different foods being sold in the streets here, you can get full without having to walk into a store or restaurant. I love it.
That there is what’s called a “huarache”. Now you might be saying “wait Dan, that’s the name of Mexican leather sandals. You didn’t eat that.”...
MONTERREY
When we got to Monterrey we were all hungry. So of course that meant the first order of the evening was to get tacos.
We found a place called “Tlaquepaque”. All they serve are tacos made one of two ways: seco (dry) or bañados (bathed). I got the bañados, because I’ve never had a taco swimming in hot sauce. They were lovely. Five beef tacos drenched in smokey chipotle salsa....
TIJUANA
Oh shit. Mexican food. My favorite food. I’m kind of a Mexican food snob, I won’t really eat it in the US outside of California (Texas, Arizona and New Mexico I’ll make exceptions for sometimes). But our last tour wasn’t in the US, it was in Mexico! So of course I got down on PLENTY of good food.
Our first stop was in Tijuana. Before our show we wandered around and found a...
I'm baaaaaaaack
Oh my lord. Another Road Noms post? This thing is still alive?!
You better believe it. Still going. Although I will admit I have let this thing go untouched WAY too long. It was genuinely starting to bother me. But at least I have a good excuse. I’ll fill everyone in for a minute to let you know what’s been going on with me.
So last August when we were in Cincinnati on Warped Tour I...

sugarsp3llitout asked: There's this place in Connecticut that steams burgers and the cheese instead of grilling them, and it looks soooo good.
Wurstküche
Shit, I almost forgot about this one. Before we left for Europe we spent a couple days in LA doing a photo and video shoot. One night we went to a place I’ve wanted to check out in downtown LA for a long time called Wurstküche. They specialize in German beers and some very exotic sausages. They have an alligator and pork smoked andouille, a rabbit and veal sausage, and lots of other crazy...

I enabled the ‘Ask’ option on this thing so fire away with some questions!
Bruges
We spent another day off in Bruges, Belgium and it was one of the best I’ve ever had. We did lots of tourist sightseeing and of course ate some great food.
After a mid-day panini I had this waffle topped with chocolate ice cream. Nothing beats an actual Belgian waffle. It’s way more of a dessert kind of thing than breakfast like in the US. There’s large bits of sugar inside...
Stiegl Brewery
The other week we had a day off in Salzburg, Austria, where Mikey, Matt and I hit up a really cool brewery called the Stiegl Brewery for a good lunch.
I started off with season wheat beer. Very delicious.
I had this really nice burger topped with cheese and bacon. The patty had a real weird texture and it was very different than any burger I’ve ever had but it was still very tasty....
Po Dogs
We visited our favorite hot dog spot, Po Dogs, on the day of our Seattle show and once again it was great.
I had a Morning Glory to start. This giant thing was topped with scrambled eggs, cheddar and pepper bacon. I also threw some jalapeños on it. Pure deliciousness.
The Morning Glory had nothing on the PB Dog though. Topped with peanut butter, peanuts and banana, this thing would have...
Green Lettuce
I went to a pretty sweet Indian-influenced Chinese restaurant in Vancouver called Green Lettuce with my two great friends, Avrinder and Justin. Avrinder told me about this place a while before this and fortunately it lived up to the good praise he gave it.
We had some really good ginger chicken and I think sweet and sour beef? Regardless, they were very tasty.
Neither of those dishes were...
Smoke's Poutinerie
After our London, Ontario show we went to a good poutine spot down the road called Smoke’s with Pat and our other friend Spencer. Smoke’s gets pretty creative with their poutine. You can get all sorts of meats on it like smoked pork, beef, chicken and even chili. They do nacho poutine too, with nacho cheese, sour cream, guacamole and jalapeños. So many rad options, it was tough to...
Prince Al's Diner
Holy shit. An update. First in a long time. My apologies for that. Our last tour with August Burns Red was so plagued with problems that it kind of demotivated me from posting. Or doing anything really. But now we’re in the UK and we had a great week in Europe so I’m back in top form. So let’s get down to it.
We played London, Ontario on the ABR run and before the show our good...

Asia de Cuba
So I’ll start this post off by saying Asia de Cuba is probably the fanciest spot I’ve ever blogged about. It’s an Asian fusion restaurant in the Mondrian Hotel next to the House of Blues on Sunset. We got taken to dinner here by Kelly Paiste, the head of Paiste Cymbals, the brand Mikey uses, and joining us was her friend, John. We ate some food I’ll remember for some...
U.S. Egg
On the day of our Mesa, AZ show we checked out this really good breakfast spot in Tempe called U.S. Egg. Junior had been telling me about this place for some time now and thankfully it didn’t disappoint at all.
I had the “Half and Half”, which is a small stack of their famous (and for good reason) “Protein Pancakes” and a half order of one of their Idaho Hot...
Stubb's
Before our show at Emo’s, Mikey and I checked out a fairly well-known Austin barbecue place called Stubb’s. Not only does Stubb’s dish out some good tasting grub but they also have two stages and put on a lot of live music, especially during SXSW. We were about 2 weeks early for that though, so on this day it was all about food for us.
I had the brisket plate, with a side of...
Pike's Old Fashioned Soda Shop
A few of us went to Pike’s Old Fashioned Soda Shop the day we played Charlotte. I had never been to the place or even heard of it but I ended up getting some tasty stuff.
I got a cup of this potato and bacon soup. It was thick and creamy, very nice. And bacon makes everything better, this soup included.
These potato chips covered in bleu cheese were what really got me stoked though....
Hangover Burger
We played in Richmond at the Hat Factory the other day and people on the tour got 25% off food at their restaurant. I’m Jewish so you better believe I took advantage of cheap food. I got what’s called the Hangover Burger. Part of me is glad I did, but my stomach certainly wasn’t.
This beast was a 1/2 pound patty topped with chili, a fried egg, cheese, bacon and a fried onion...
Ishkabibbles
So I was going to go to Jim’s, the cheesesteak shop right next to the TLA in Philly, with my girlfriend Alison but it was closed. She’s never had an actual cheesesteak from Philadelphia before, and I’ve tried Jim’s before and liked it, so I figured that was a good place for her to have her first at. But I didn’t want her to miss out so we tried Ishkabibbles, the place...
Peter's
Before our show in New York City I met up with my girlfriend Alison, as well as our friends Noah and Lisa, at a nice little spot in Brooklyn called Peter’s. It ended up being a cool little find where you can get a lot of good food at a decent price, which if you live in NYC is a big come up.
That’s the smoked pork and grits dish I had. It was nice and extremeley filling. All of that...
La Banquise
After our Montreal show we had to dine on more poutine. This is the capital of the poutine-iverse and our friend Tomas took us to what ended up being the best spot I’ve ever had poutine from, La Banquise.
I had the Obélix, which is poutine with smoked meat on it. The meat is pretty much like pastrami. I’ve had it once before and it was excellent then, but this was even better....

Poutini's
Poutine. Fries. Gravy. Cheese curds. Totally Canadian. Totally delicious. Ever since my first poutine experience I’ve been a sworn fan of it. Some fear it. Some don’t know what it is. The rest of us love it. After our show in Toronto last night we went to Poutini’s, a nice little spot that specializes in the stuff.
Simple poutine with the normal ingredients is all well and...
Dangerous Dan's
Yesterday we played in Toronto. Across the street from the venue was a burger spot that was recommended to me called Dangerous Dan’s. I scoped the place out and was immediately convinced it was for me. They had posters on the wall that said things like “Meat is murder…tasty tasty murder” and “While we still have health care” along with a picture of two hands...
Kuma's Corner
Kuma’s Corner in Chicago is a burger place that dishes up some huge burgers with a plethora of toppings I’ve never really seen on a burger before. But what really caught my attention about the place is that their burgers are named after metal bands, just about all of which I’m pretty into. There’s the Pantera, Slayer, Iron Maiden, High On Fire, Mayhem, and a bunch of other...
Melt
One year ago I was introduced to Melt, a spot in Cleveland that specializes in outrageous grilled cheese sandwiches, and it changed my life forever. Two days ago we revisited Melt and it further strengthened my love of it.
This time I had their Monte Cristo, a deep-fried giant of a sandwich filled with ham, turkey, swiss and American cheeses. The clencher of the Monte Cristo is the raspberry...
Native Foods
Before heading out to the Glasshouse today the band stopped at Native Foods. I had heard a lot about it being one of the best vegan joints around and I was pretty excited to try it out. I’m glad to say Native Foods lived up to the hype!
That’s the portabello and sausage burger. It had a tasty seitan sausage patty topped with portabello mushrooms, roasted garlic cloves, pumpkin seed...
The Waffle
After the Social Distortion show at the Palladium, my friend Felicia and I went next door to a diner simply called The Waffle. I didn’t know it when I walked in there but on that night The Waffle showed me a whole new level of depravity, gluttony and self-abuse in the form of a sandwich titled “The Double Wide”. Observe:
The Double Wide is a sandwich with fried chicken breast,...
Doomies
I’ll start this off by saying I’m big into Southern-style comfort food. Country fried steak, fried chicken, barbecue, mac and cheese, all of it…I love it. I sometimes think I should have been born in the South because of how much I love the food from there. Doomies is a newer spot in LA that probably feels the same way as I do because they specialize in all that kind of food. I...
The Grilled Cheese Truck
A new trend in the food industry is food trucks. I’m not talking about the nasty, cockroach infested disease-boxes on wheels that serve up disgusting sandwiches and cold egg rolls. I’m talking about nice looking trucks that go to different areas and serve up real gourmet food that most often has a cool spin on it, not just plain old boring nonsense that you can get anywhere. In this...
Tomato Pie
While we were in LA I was introduced to a great pizza shop in Silver Lake called Tomato Pie by my friend Felicia. I normally think of pizza spots outside of NY and Chicago as fairly dime-a-dozen, but Felicia absolutely loves Tomato Pie and is from Long Island. No self-respecting New Yorker would give that much of a fuck about a pizza place in California unless there was something special about it....

Malo Mondays
Last Monday Jordan and I went to a Mexican restaurant on Sunset in Silver Lake called Malo. It’s a lot nicer and fancier a Mexican spot than I’m used to, but every Monday they have really cheap tacos filled with some pretty cool stuff.
I had a mix of tacos. On the left is Malo’s specialty taco, the ground beef and pickle. It was great. Loads of perfectly seasoned beef mixed...
The Griddle Cafe
So we’ve been in LA the past couple weeks finishing our record and I have been feasting on some pretty choice spots. One of them is The Griddle Cafe, a breakfast place in Hollywood that will successfully make you feel like the fattest piece of shit ever. And to me, that’s a good thing. I actually went there twice because I guess I like punishing myself? Whatever.
The first time I went...
Fogo de Chão
A couple weeks ago Matt, Junior, our friend Brian and I went with our dear friend and party instigator Fubu to Fogo de Chão for his birthday and managed to completely fill our stomachs to the point of barely being able to walk. It was quite an experience. Fogo de Chão, which is probably Portuguese for “fat fuck” because that’s what you feel like after eating there, is one of...
Stuggy's
Stuggy’s is a quality hot dog establishment in Fells Point, Baltimore. One late night a large group of us invaded the spot with gusto and confidence, but walked out thoroughly beaten and bested by the gargantuan gourmet franks we consumed.
I’ll start with the minor details: the drink is Boylan’s birch beer out of the fountain. Boylan’s does beverages right, whether it be...
Blue Moon Cafe
The Blue Moon Cafe is one of my favorite spots in Baltimore. I’ve blogged about it before when I had the Cap’n Crunch french toast. On the same night we were out celebrating Joe’s birthday a few of us drunkenly stumbled to Blue Moon where I finished my night with a proper helping of…something that I can’t quite recall.
The name of this mess of a dish escapes me,...
Baltimore noms
Hi there! So SYG hasn’t been on tour in a while now because we were first in Baltimore recording our new album and now we’re in LA finishing it up. But eating good food is more of a life choice (an especially poor one in my case, given all the trash I put in my stomach); it’s something that isn’t dictated by when I am and am not on tour. That said, I’ve decided to...
Top Ten Noms of 2010
Holy fuck this blog is still up? Fear not, for while I haven’t done an entry in a long time, this blog will not stop as long as I am touring, eating and my digestive system doesn’t quit on me. But in my defense SYG had about 3 months off after Warped Tour and I was too lazy to blog anything I ate at home. (I should probably start doing that though.) Anyways, here’s what topped my...

Tastes like chicken
On another one of our off days in Grand Forks, North Dakota a few of us went to The Toasted Frog, a local brewpub/lounge-style restaurant. We went there based on Yelp’s suggestion, and once again Yelp did not let us down, for we ate like kings.
You might think those are chicken legs, but you’d be wrong. They’re actually fried frogs’ legs and they were incredibly...
Hog Heaven
We spent one of our last off days in Nashville cleaning up a whole shit ton of trash left by the Spring flood. It was a dirty, grimy day and I sweated my ass off. To reward myself I stopped at a sweet barbecue place I’ve been to a few times before called Hog Heaven. Hog Heaven is legitimately a shed, but they serve up real, delicious ‘cue you can (almost) only get in the South.

Jim's
You can’t go to Philly, or I guess Camden, without getting a cheesesteak. On the day of the Camden Warped show Junior was nice enough to bring me back a Whiz With from Jim’s.
This was my first time trying Jim’s. I had heard a lot of good things and fortunately it didn’t disappoint. Everything was right about this cheesesteak, from the roll to the meat to Cheez Whiz to...
Angelo's
On the day of the Scranton Warped date my buddy Alex and our friends in Title Fight took us to Angelo’s, a pizza place in Wilkes-Barre that made me rethink how a pizza can taste.
This is a medium pizza with sausage and sweet sauce. It may not look like anything too special, but trust me when I say the sweet sauce adds a totally new-to-me dimension that I won’t forget anytime soon. I...
Buffalo
At the Buffalo Warped date Keith and Jordan of Every Time I Die’s dad brought out 240 pounds of chicken wings and cooked them Buffalo-style for the tour. I had a bunch and I will say without doubt they are some of the best wings I’ve ever had.
They were spicy and a bit sweet all at the same time. It’ll probably be a while before I get wings this good again. Apparently the...
Warped noms
Ok so Warped Tour has been going for a while now. And I’ll admit I haven’t been making too much of an effort to venture off and find good food because, well, I’ve got it everyday thanks to the catering staff on the tour. And let’s face it, blogging about food that only people on the tour can eat is pretty boring, no matter how good it is (and they do do a good job stuffing...
